Our founder, H.B. Mclaughlin, started the company in 1963 from his garage in California growing rubies for the purpose of developing a ruby laser. The development of diamond wire, and diamond wire saws, came about when he realized that he needed a method to cut the rubies into thin wafers for use in the lasers. The development of diamond wire landed him the prestigious IR100 award in 1967 for one the best inventions of the year.
Today, DMT is a growing, international company focused on the innovation, research and development of diamond wire cutting technology and diamond wire products. Our diamond wire is used on many of the leading production saws around the world for wafering, bricking, cropping and shaping applications.
